Forbes Leadership Highlights of the Week: Summing Up Steve Jobs

Date: Fri, 26. August 2011 23:17:07
Steve Jobs was of course the big news in the realm of leadership this week. His announcement that he was stepping down as chief executive of Apple saddened us all and led us to pause and reflect and sum up an extraordinary career. Our first to file, within an hour or two of the announcement, was Carmine Gallo, a leading expert on Jobs, with "What Makes Steve 'Steve." Before long we also had Chunka Mui taking "A Measure of Steve Jobs," my appreciation of what I take to be "Steve Jobs' One Big Idea," and George Bradt doing a "Steve Jobs Wake Analysis." Steve Denning got past legend with "Understanding Apple: Five Myths About Steve Jobs," and followed up with "Another Myth Bites the Dust: How Apple Listens to Its Customers," while Caleb Melby put together a slideshow of "Apple's Most Unforgettable Advertising." Carmine Gallo returned with a tribute to "Steve Jobs: The World's Most Inspiring Comunicator." August Turak asked "Do You Think Like Steve Jobs? Take This Quiz and Find Out," and Adam Hartung identified one CEO who definitely doesn't: "Why Leo Apotheker Is No Steve Jobs?Too Bad for HP." Finally David Martin penned a lovely recollection of his father's time with Jobs as one of Apple's very first employees: "Steve Jobs and the Impact of Clarity."

I think not. These cards became popular many years ago because they allowed budget travelers to earn frequent flyer miles from everyday purchases like groceries and oil changes. But airline frequent flyer miles have become increasingly difficult to use as a budget travel tool. Many of us like to shop multiple airlines for a good deal, pay for those bargains in cash, and then use travel rewards to book hotels or car rentals. A a href=http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc#038;zu=http://budgettravel.about.com/od/airfarescruises/a/picks_bankcards.htmbank-based travel rewards credit card/a works quite well in that scenario. What is best for you? There is no blanket answer. You must look at your own patterns of spending and travel. You must ask yourself if being tied to one carrier through an a href=http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc#038;zu=http://budgettravel.about.com/od/aircreditcards/qt/airlinecreditcard.htmairline credit card/a is best. /p p style="background:#f5f3ef;border: 1px solid #d5d0bf;padding:.5em;"a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hczu=http://budgettravel.about.com/b/2009/11/08/airline-credit-card-questions.htm"Airline Credit Card Questions/a originally appeared on a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hczu=http://budgettravel.about.com/"About.com Budget Travel/a on Sunday, November 8th, 2009 at 16:28:20./ppa href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hczu=http://budgettravel.about.com/b/2009/11/08/airline-credit-card-questions.htm"Permalink/a | a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hczu=http://budgettravel.about.com/b/2009/11/08/airline-credit-card-questions.htm#gB3"Comment/a | a href="http://budgettravel.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://budgettravel.about.com/b/2009/11/08/airline-credit-card-questions.htmzItl=Airline Credit Card Questions"Email this/a/p

Is Palin Just Using 'Operation Payback' to Get Attention? (The Atlantic Wire)

The Atlantic Wire - It's Odd that Her Credit Card Was Broken Into, writes Ben Smith at Politico:Visa didn't mention the Anonymous attacks, which have reprortedly been denial of service attacks aimed at websites, not thefts of credit card data. So it's not entirely unclear whether Palin's card was compromised as part of a broad attack on Visa, a specific attack on the Palins, or whether the breach was unrelated to the WikiLeaks cyberwars.

Date: Sat, 26. March 2011 16:33:32
March Madness is running rampant, and apparently it's hit the billing department at Time-Warner Cable. An Ohio man saw his credit card declined when attempting to pay for access to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, because his credit card couldn't handle the $16 million bill.
